Are you searching for a modern electric crossover vehicle with plenty of cabin space? The all-new Toyota bZ4X could be just what you’re looking for. It has slightly more space inside than the popular RAV4 compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), while boasting a peppy power train to get you around town with ease. Our Toyota experts here at Dublin Toyota have put together a preview of the latest all-electric vehicles to hit our showroom.
The bZ4X is forward-looking and made for excitement. The “bZ” stands for “beyond zero,” a reference to zero-emission vehicles. The bZ4X is just one of 30 electric models that Toyota is planning to roll out across its global operations over the coming years.
Toyota bZ4X Engine and Performance
The bZ4X’s power train consists of a single motor in front-wheel drive and a motor on each axle in all-wheel drive. The base setup can produce 201 horsepower, which is more than enough for daily driving around town or on the highway. All-wheel drive models benefit from slightly more power, with two electric motors combining to generate 214 horsepower.
Since the bZ4X doesn’t run on gas, its fuel efficiency is measured in miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). The front-wheel drive bZ4X can achieve up to 119 MPGe, while all-wheel-drive models can reach 104 MPGe.
If you want a bZ4X with maximum driving range, you’ll probably want to opt for a front-wheel drive model. This bZ4X can drive up to 252 miles when fully charged, while all-wheel drive models can cover 228 miles.
The length of time you’ll need to fully charge your battery depends on the type of charging station you use. A level 1 charger, which is a 120-volt power outlet at home, would take about 30 hours to fully charge the battery, which is not viable for most drivers. Level 2 chargers can be installed at your home for an extra fee, or you can use a public station. These chargers are much faster, filling up the bZ4X’s battery in approximately 9 hours. The fastest option, a DC fast charger, can recharge 80% of your car’s battery in under an hour.
Electric Toyota Interior
Inside the bZ4X, you’ll find seating for up to five people. Both rows of seats can accommodate adult passengers, and there are also two sets of LATCH connectors in the rear row if you need to install child seating.
If you have a full cabin of passengers, you’ll have a little over 38 cubic feet of storage space at the rear. That should be enough space to transport a large amount of luggage for a weekend camping trip or a family vacation. You can access even more space by folding down the rear row of seats, which opens over 56 cubic feet of cargo-carrying capacity.
Infotainment and Safety Features of the bZ4X
The infotainment system in the bZ4X stands out on a massive display screen measuring 12.3 inches. It includes a six-speaker stereo and wireless device charging, so you can keep your phones fully loaded while you’re on the go. Smart phone compatibility is ensured with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A premium nine-speaker stereo is available for a superior listening experience to your favorite music or podcasts.
Another standout feature of the bZ4X is its comprehensive range of standard safety technology. The base model includes pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning with steering assist. You also get dynamic cruise control, roadside assist, and lane tracing assist. Many features that are offered by some automakers as optional extras, such as blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert, are included in the base trim level of the bZ4X.
Two important optional upgrades are the surround-view parking camera and downhill assist feature. The first provides you with an aerial view of your vehicle on your screen so you can detect potential risks from all angles, while the second gives you added control over the bZ4X when you’re on a trail or traversing rough terrain.
Toyota bZ4X Colors
Toyota is offering the bZ4X in an attractive range of exterior and interior colors so that you can put your own personal touch on your next electric crossover. Exterior colors include:
- Black.
- Elemental Silver Metallic.
- Heavy Metal.
- Supersonic Red.
- Wind Chill Pearl.
The cabin of the bZ4X has a cool black design, which combines well with any of the exterior colors you may choose.
Toyota bZ4X Trim Options
The two trim levels available for 2023 are XLE and Limited. They both come standard with front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive is offered as an optional extra. The XLE has an MSRP of $42,000, while the Limited starts at $46,700.
The base XLE trim level includes five USB ports in the cabin and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster. With the Weather Package, you can add a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel and heated front seats for even more comfort.
The Limited trim level comes with a heated steering wheel and ambient floor lighting in the cabin. You’ll also benefit from a power liftgate, a surround-view parking camera, and ventilated and heated front seats. Optional upgrades with this trim include heated rear seats and a nine-speaker premium stereo.
If you want to take advantage of faster charging at home, you can purchase an EV charger as an optional upgrade. Keep in mind that you’ll also need to pay an installation fee for the charger, since this task needs to be carried out by a professional electrician.
