Toyota Corolla Interior Features
The 2023 Corolla offers seating for five people across two rows. The available cargo space will depend on whether you choose the sedan or hatchback style. The hatchback provides more storage space at the rear, but the sedan will better suit you if you plan on carrying adult passengers in the rear row.
In numbers, the sedan offers 13.1 cubic feet of space in the trunk, while the hatchback gives you a roomier 17.8 cubic feet. You can transport bulkier items with the rear seats folded down in the hatchback. If you need more space, you may want to check out the midsize Toyota Camry.
You can exchange the standard cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats for more upscale alternatives in the higher trims. Optional features include heated front seats, power adjustments for the driver, and synthetic leather upholstery.
Toyota Corolla Infotainment Technology
Toyota equips the 2023 Corolla with an impressive array of entertainment technology. The base setup has an 8-inch display, a six-speaker stereo, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Additional connectivity options include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB ports, Bluetooth, and the “Hey Toyota” virtual assistant. The assistant feature can follow verbal commands to perform simple tasks, such as changing the radio station or turning up the volume.
Two stereos are available as optional upgrades, one with eight speakers and another with nine. You can also add a wireless device charging pad instead of relying on a USB port to charge your phone.
Toyota Corolla Safety and Driver Assistance
One of the Corolla’s many strengths is its extensive list of safety features. The standard features include several pieces of technology to make highway driving easier, such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, and lane-keep assist. You’ll also benefit from forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection, which work together to help you avoid collisions. All Corollas come standard with 10 airbags so if an accident doe happen, you’re well protected.
Traffic sign recognition alerts you to speed limits and other key driving rules, while the rear seat reminder warns you to check the back row before you exit the vehicle to ensure you don’t leave your kids or pets behind. You can upgrade to blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts to help you detect drivers approaching from behind.
Toyota Corolla Trims
The Corolla is available in three trims: the LE, SE, and XSE. You can also choose from two body styles: the sedan or hatchback. Note that only the two higher trims offer a hatchback option. All the trims and body styles rely on a four-cylinder engine with an output of 169 horsepower to lead their powertrain. The GR Corolla is a high-powered version of the Corolla that we’ll consider separately below.
The Corolla’s fuel efficiency is one of the most attractive things about its powertrain in both the sedan and hatchback configurations. The Corolla achieves up to 41 mpg on the highway and 32 mpg on city roads with the LE sedan and SE hatchback trims. Even the XSE hatchback, the least efficient in the standard Corolla lineup, manages a more than respectable 38 mpg on the highway.
The base LE trim has an MSRP of $21,550. Alongside the standard infotainment and safety features, this trim has 16-inch steel wheels with all-season tires. Optional upgrades include alloy wheels, proximity keyless entry, and push-button start.
The Corolla SE trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels for the sedan and 16-inch wheels for the hatchback. Other new features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, paddle shifters, and proximity keyless entry. You can opt for a nine-speaker stereo or a moonroof to create a more upscale feel in your cabin.
The XSE trim has synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a digital gauge cluster. The hatchback version steps up to the 18-inch alloy wheels that come with the SE sedan and also boasts dual-zone climate control.
Toyota GR Corolla
If you’ve been searching for a small hatchback with incredible acceleration, the GR Corolla hatchback is the vehicle for you. It shares its name with the Corolla but has a significantly more powerful engine under the hood. The GR Corolla’s turbocharged three-cylinder engine puts out an impressive 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque and pairs with a six-speed manual transmission. The GR Corolla features a model-specific all-wheel-drive system that reviewers praise for its impressive torque.
The GR Corolla is available in three trims: the Core, Circuit Edition, and Morizo Edition. The Core shares many features with the Corolla SE but adds front sport seats, fog lights, upgraded brakes, and sport tires. It has three exhausts, widened fender flares, and lightweight 18-inch wheels. The Circuit Edition includes performance upgrades such as hood vents, a carbon fiber roof, and front and rear limited-slip differentials.
The Morizo Edition is ideal for the racetrack or other high-performance settings. This trim removes the rear seats and adds a tuned-up suspension, an additional 22 lb-ft of torque, and high-performance tires.
